A new generation of EUROPE DIRECT centres will start operating across the EU on 1 May 2021.  The network of 424 centres will bring the European Union, its policies and values to all corners of Europe, and will also establish an important connection between EU institutions and the European citizens.

The European Commission Representation in Malta is pleased to announce that the three EDs that will be operating in Malta and Gozo from 1 May 2021 to 31 December 2025 are SEM – Servizzi Ewropej f’Malta, Core Platform and the Gozo Business Chamber.

The new EUROPE DIRECT network will provide timely and objective information on European matters, but will also seek to engage with citizens regarding the state and future of the European Union.  The role and mandate of EUROPE DIRECT centres have been modernised with respect to previous generations and now include the mandate to organise citizens’ dialogues and a range of participatory events that contribute directly to the development of a European public sphere.  The EDs will offer local media relevant content on EU policies and priorities, involve them in their activities and help the Commission keep track of local sensitivities linked to EU policies.  The new centres will also promote active European citizenship in schools and coordinate with other EU networks in the regions, ensuring easier access for citizens, organisations and businesses.
