In 2020, the EU agreed its 2021-2027 long-term budget. Together with the NextGenerationEU recovery instrument, it amounts to €2.018 trillion in current prices, making up the largest stimulus package ever financed by the EU.

The proposed strategy sets out a common framework for achieving economic security by promoting the EU's economic base and competitiveness; protecting against risks; and partnering with the broadest possible range of countries to address shared concerns and interests.

The call will close on 25 October 2023 and is expected to fund around 50 projects implementing these activities in the EU and countries associated to Horizon Europe.

In the Mediterranean and the Black Seas, while stocks are slowly becoming healthier, fishing mortality continues to pose difficulties. The fishing mortality rate for 2020, the latest available data, is the lowest so far, but it is still 71% above the recommended sustainability rate.

In the framework of the Digital Decade, progress on achieving EU targets and objectives, as well as on implementing the digital rights and principles, will be measured annually. The analysis includes reporting on multi-country projects enabling Member States to make advancements in digital together.
