New National Member for Malta, Maria Baldacchino, takes up duties

Appointment

Ms Maria Baldacchino has taken up her duties as the new National Member for Malta at Eurojust this month, succeeding Mr Philip Galea Farrugia. Ms Baldacchino has already served as Deputy National Member since September 2021, combining this function with her work as a lawyer at the Office of the Attorney General in Valletta. She has worked at Eurojust as Assistant to the National Member since March 2020.

Commenting on her appointment as National Member, Ms Baldacchino stated: ‘I am deeply honoured and excited to have been appointed as a National Member for Malta at Eurojust. I am committed to working tirelessly alongside my colleagues to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime and promote the values of justice, fairness and security within Europe and beyond.’

Ms Baldacchino graduated in law in November 2018 from the University of Malta and received her licence to work as a lawyer in September 2019. In January 2020, she joined the Office of the Attorney General of Malta, working within the International and Criminal Affairs Unit. In this capacity, Ms Baldacchino mainly focused on extradition-related matters and requests for Mutual Legal Assistance.

In December 2022, she obtained her Masters in Law in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of London. Over the years, the new National Member for Malta attended various conferences on cross-border crime and criminal justice, representing the Office of the Attorney General abroad.
