Description
Join us in the fourth edition of Ħoss il-Malti on February 21, the International Day of the Mother Language. This celebration marks the importance of languages to transmit culture and traditions between generations, and the importance of preserving linguistic diversity around the world. This is even truer of lesser-spoken languages, some of which are now facing extinction.
The concept of Ħoss il-Malti is as simple as it is revolutionary: a clubnight and concert featuring music exclusively in Maltese, from all styles and eras.
The fourth edition of Ħoss il-Malti will feature a special set by Michael Azzopardi and his band Il-Klieb tal-Wulf, in their first outing since last year’s release of the album Tfal tax-Xemx. Azzopardi burst onto the scene in 2020 with a slew of singles and videos, which were followed by the Pistola EP (2021) and the albums Vaganza (2023) and Tfal tax-Xemx (2025).
Ħoss il-Malti challenges the outdated notion that Maltese doesn’t belong in certain areas, and shows that the Maltese language can express everything, everywhere – from the kitchen, the sea and the fields, to music, theatre, the media, to the highest European institutions.
This is something the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) knows well. For more than 20 years, DGT has been working with the Maltese language to express a wide range of concepts in all the areas the European Union works in. If languages are your thing and would like to learn more about translation in the European Commission, why don’t you apply for a paid 5-month Blue Book Traineeship with us? Applications for the October 2026 are due to open on March 16.
At Ħoss il-Malti you will also be able to get your hands on the latest issue of l-aċċent, the publication produced by the Maltese language community within DGT.
Non-Maltese speakers are more than welcome to join!
Ħoss il-Malti is a European Day of Languages event, organised by DGT’s office within the European Commission Representation in Malta together with Storeroom, with the support of Erasmus+.
